Slurpees
following Gd's Word, that's what counts
All Slurpees are KOSHER.
They contain - NO grape, NO grape derivative, NO Carmine NO Cochineal, NO Gelatine, NO pig |
An Australian Kosher agency, which has not been granted access to analyse every last detail of the ingredients and the manufacturing process are suggesting or ruling [hard to tell what they mean] that Slurpees should not be eaten. I quote, “in line with our policy of not recommending products about which we have not received validating information, we continue not to recommend Slurpees”
And yet the sister or brother Kosher agency rules that they are Kosher. I must note that the quoted policy, is contrary to Halacha. Every Jew who eats a piece of meat for example, from the greatest sage to the most simple Jew, is illustrating the Halacha that we do NOT require ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that the meat we eat is Kosher. The carcase is NOT checked for every single possible blemish that may render it a Tereifa i.e. not Kosher. We do not find anywhere in our traditions that checking for every single possible blemish is a praiseworthy exercise. Not one sage in our history ever proposed such a thing. From this we learn a very important principle about our relationship with Gd. In order to be loyal to Gd we must follow Gd's instructions and not our own preferences and imagined guidelines. We may imagine that Gd wants us to ensure that the carcase from which we eat has absolutely no blemishes at all, but this is not correct. In fact, it is a distortion of Gd's will. HKBH says that we employ Rov, majority and Chazaka, the established norm; to determine Halacha. Our loyalty to HKBH requires us to accept Gd's instructions. Betraying Gd means ignoring Gd's instructions because we think that our ideas are better. It is clear, Kosher meat is NOT that which comes from a slaughtered beast that has no blemishes. Kosher meat is that which has been slaughtered and has complied with Gd's instructions. These instructions, Halacha, instruct us to rely on majority and to rely on the normal and the assumed status of the beast. This is the Halacha applied by the London Beth Din and every other Beth Din and Kosher agency when "approving" and also when certifying various foods. Even if it is later discovered that the meat is from a carcase that has a non-Kosher blemish, those who have eaten are not considered to have erred or sinned in even the slightest degree. They do not and should not engage in any form of penance. They must not feel any sense of shame or failure. They have followed Gd’s word and THAT is what counts. |
Here is another false warning - glycerol is listed as an ingredient in this Slurpee flavour, it should therefore not be eaten. Other Slurpee flavours that do not list glycerol as an ingredient remain acceptable.
Reb Moshe Feinstein rules that glycerol has no flavour. But let us ask: Why is glycerol not Kosher? Glycerol is produced as a by-product when manufacturing soap. Soap is produced by the saponification of fats, i.e. by combining the fats with caustic soda, Sodium Hydroxide, a most lethal toxic alkali. Halacha permits a non-Kosher food that has been denatured, become spoiled and is no longer a food, even if it morphs again into a food. Besides, the taste of Glycerol is of no Halachic value in the final product, it is not added for taste [although it is mostly slightly sweet] but for texture, and entirely insignificant, Battel. |
