Vaad Ha Tznius - Laundry Guidelines

Question
Must I install a mehitzah in order to separate the men's washing machine and drying machines and the women's washing and drying machines? If yes, how high does that mehitzah wall need to be and can the fabric of the mehitzah wall be see-through or must it be opaque?

please respond at your earliest

Answer
Thank you for your very important question.
  A Mechitza is NOT ADEQUATE.
The machines MUST be located in two separate rooms. It is best that these two rooms not be connected by a doorway, however, if this is unavoidable, then a door MUST be fitted and if the door MUST be fitted with a self closing mechanism.
Those who tremble before Gd will check the closing mechanism every week. It is a Segulah to check every Erev Shabbos.
It has come to our attention that many families, including those who pride themselves on following all aspects of Halacha, are regularly not conforming to proper Tznius guidelines. Unbelievably, many, many families are washing men's and women's clothing together and not only together but also at the same time and not only at the same time but also in the same washing machine.
This is an unprecedented breach of Tznius!!!

How could anyone think that one is allowed to wash men's and women's undergarments at the same time in the same washing load?!!!  What has our nation come to when people have fallen to such a low level? For shame!!! This practice must stop!!!! Who knows how many beautiful and precious Neshomos have been lost, defiled, corrupted, tainted, distorted and tormented by the horrific consequences of such insensitive, reckless and sinful activity going on without regard in our very homes which we struggle so mightily to maintain as sanctuaries of Gdliness.

We wish to restore the beauty which is truly ours, to our families and to our communities. Given this we are advising, begging and demanding that the following guidelines regarding the holy and Kosher method of doing laundry.
  1. Ideally each observant home should have two washing machines and two dryers - one washing machine and one dryer should be used exclusively for men's clothing and the other washing machine and dryer should be used exclusively for women's clothing.
  2. Two clothes baskets must also be maintained. Ensure that they are coloured to maintain the sanctity of the laundry. Pink baskets must NEVER be used for men's clothing. It is said that Devora who merited to see seven of her sons as leading Roshei Yeshivah ascribed her fortune to maintaining that the boys clothes and girls clothes were never exposed to one another but were always separated by a heavy Mechitza.
She proved this by observing that her one and only son who did not become a Rosh Yeshivah, once inadvertently allowed the Mechitza in the clothes cupboard to fall thereby exposing his clothing to his sisters clothing.
  1. In the event that a family cannot afford to have two washing machines and two dryers, the following rules should be adhered to.
  • Under no circumstances should men's clothes be washed in the same machine as women's clothing at the same time.
  • They should of course, also be dried separately.
  • After doing a load of men's clothing, (which MUST be washed FIRST) one should run the washing machine through a complete cycle without any clothes in it using hot water. Some also add a generous portion of caustic soda others prefer acid. Only following this purging cycle may one wash women's clothing in this machine.
  • The same procedure should, of course, be followed after washing a load of women's clothing. Some insist on waiting for 24 hours after being used for women's clothing, before purging the machine.
  • One careless person used codswallop for the purging process and has never been able to fully remove the taint.
  • After drying a load of men's clothing the dryer should be allowed to cool off completely. After this, one may use the dryer for drying women's clothes. The same applies after drying a load of women's clothing before using the dryer for men's clothing.
  • It is not enough to let the dryer cool below Yad So Ledas Bo. The dryer must be completely cooled off.

Our forefathers lived in a land that was between two rivers - the Tigris and the Euphrates. The reason is obvious to anyone who thinks into it a bit. One river was used to wash women's clothing and the other to wash men's clothing. Surely we can and MUST continue this tradition by observing the rules stated above.

We are confident that everyone who takes Yahadus seriously will abide by the guidelines stated above.
We are confident that by enshrining these important guidelines HaShem will spread His Protection and Holiness over us and save us from seeing improper and immodest females and assure us that Beit Shemesh will be rid of its unholy misled deviants who have resisted all our pleasant entreaties to see the light and conceal their bodies in darkness and open their minds to His Light.

With Torah Greetings,

Names withheld by demand due to concern that our wives will stop doing our laundry.
