Easier than you Think
Rav Yitzchok Zilberstein was asked the following: "my wife bakes Challos for Shabbos, and we also buy Challos for our large family and many guests."
"I must admit that I prefer the taste of the bought Challah and wonder if the Halacha directs me to use that for the HaMotzi Beracha, rather than my wife's since it has the taste I prefer?" Rav Zilberstein [I imagine, shook his head? and] explained: the Mishna in Pirkei Avos (3:18) says "Chaviv Adam SheNivra BeTzelem", every person is Chaviv, beloved because they are created in HaShem's image. Is your wife not more Chaviv than a bakery challah? Rav Zilberstein then related that Rav Eliyahu Dessler stopped using the Kos that was his wife's sacred family heirloom, after she passed away. It had been Rav Yisroel Salanter's Kos. However, this Kos was not sufficiently large to satisfy the Shiur [volume] that Rav Dessler preferred, but for many years he honoured Gd by honouring his wife, rather than having a larger Shiur. |
