A Stranger's Praise is Honest Proverbs 27:2

It is always interesting to see oneself through the eyes of another, particularly if it is through the eyes of  a critic. As our prophet says, "Better the open criticism than the love that conceals" Proverbs 27:5
So I present here the profile, as seen and described by a vociferous critic, that we seem to have created for our Kosher activity
  • the Rabbis in Melbourne make oodles of money from Kashrus [I presume this is inferred (with our critic's jaundiced eye) from this article I published, which BTW draws significantly from my critic's blog who provided the quoted opinions of John Kraus and Romy Leibler]
Actually it is not avarice but laziness that I believe is at the heart of the matter. All communal Kosher orgs do good things with their money, they support rabbis, widows, orphans, community projects and the needy. I presume when it began, the community equitably taxed meat through its Kashrus certification. Meat was a luxury and this was essentially a wealth tax. However, once it became established it was impossible to back out of. And whenever additional funds were required the tax was raised a little. There is no pressure to seek efficiencies, the tap can simply be turned a little.
  • the organisations in Melbourne make oodles of money from Kashrus [as above]
  • the standards of Kashrus in Melbourne are too extreme and designed to support a monopoly and those standards cost us money and are unnecessary anyway [this part is accurate; as above, also see Carmine, Gelatine, Lactose]
  • some kosher good suppliers are making a fortune from profiteering on kashrus. [as above]
Enter the proverbial iconoclast, clad in fire-proof armour: [This part I like best]
  • I will assume standards of kashrus which are different [Yes, normal standards of Kashrus, based on traditional, orthodox Halacha see these]
  • I will market my standards incessantly across the internet and elsewhere [he must be besotted with my work]
  • My motive is to bring the price of Kosher food down because I believe (anecdotally) that there are people who eat Treyf because they can’t afford the price of Kosher goods (meat?) [No, it's mainly because they don't like being taken advantage of. They don't understand and no-one can explain why a Kosher certificate should jack up the price to the extent that it does. It also doesn't help when there is little variety and poor availability. Standards are set by Halacha]
  • My finances and business dealings with partners on these matters are none of anyone’s business [indeed, it is a private business]
  • My financial books are closed [this Pesak of HaRav M Feinstien]
  • I am answerable to nobody but Hashem [I make it a point to answer all questions put to me, even those that are argumentative and rude. My critic has never put a question to me, although I have many times invited him to. We must all answer to HaShem]
  • London bridge is falling down. [?]
